Technology

Computing

We intend to provide an IT rich environment which allows children to gain the confidence and ability to equip them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world.

We aspire for all children to become independently ‘digitally literate’; use IT confidently in everyday situations; have a secure knowledge of IT applications; have the ability to use this knowledge and understanding to carry out a range of computing tasks across the curriculum; become resilient during problem solving and most importantly use it safely, respectfully and responsibly.

How is our Wholesome Curriculum reflected in Computing?

How is cultural capital developed through the Computing curriculum?

  • Children have the skills and knowledge and understand how technologies are being applied in the workplace, and the wider world.
  • Children are equipped with moral values when working online and understand how to keep their online identity secure and professional in the wider world.

  • Children have a range ofskills and knowledge that meet the requirements of the National Curriculum (2014).
  • Children are confident and competent, and can skilfully use their knowledge to navigate themselves around digital devices to support them in other areas of the curriculum.
  • Children are self-aware when using the internet and have the knowledge to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner – resulting in them being a responsible user of the internet and respecting moral values.
  • Children have an age-appropriate awareness of how to keep safe online and are  digitally literate.
  • All children are able to use, express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology. This will enable them to enter the future workplace as a competent and active participant in a digital world.

Design and Technology

Design and Technology is an inspiring, investigative and practical subject that encourages children to learn to think creatively to solve problems, both as individuals and as members of a team in an increasingly technological world.

At St Nicholas CEVC Primary School, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. We also aim to make links to designs and designers throughout history, providing opportunities for children to reflect critically upon and evaluate their designs.

We aim, wherever possible, to link work to other disciplines such as maths, science, computing and art. This gives the learning purpose and relevance to the children.

Through their lessons, extra-curricular activities and competitions, we aim to give children a broad creative experience which will expand their conceptual and practical horizons. This will not only ensure they have a rounded educational experience but will acquire skills to take them to the next stage of their education and beyond.
