Our School Council asked the children throughout the school about what they thought was the best way to behave in school. They found that most children said that if we treat others the same way as we want to be treated, then everyone would be happy. This then became our one rule, our Golden rule:
"Treat others the way you want to be treated." (Matthew 7:12)
This Golden rule can be found not only in Christianity, but in other religions and World views:
"Do to all people as you would wish to have done to you" (Islam)
"I am a friend to all" (Sikhi)
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow human" (Judaism)
"Do naught unto others what you would not have them do unto you" (Hindu Dharma)
"Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful" (Buddha Dharma)
"A person should treat all creatures as he himself would be treated" (Jain)
"The Golden rule promotes kindness and care for those in difficulty because this is what we would want in their situation. It encourages fairness, equality and respect for other people" (Humanism)
